ESL

Different levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings, for a semester of eighteen (18) weeks.
A United States (U.S.) Citizenship class for adults meets depending on student demand. Scheduling is flexible. Classes take place for one (1) hour each week for fourteen (14) weeks.

The ESL class curriculum includes basic grammar, conversation, reading and writing, everyday English life skills, speech proficiency, idioms, and various cultural aspects of the English language in a small, supportive, and friendly class environment. The U.S. Citizenship class curriculum includes basic U.S. history and preparation for the citizenship test.

Books are included in the tuition fee.

• ESL Classes: Two (2), 2-hour classes (4 hours per week) for a total of eighteen (18) weeks: a one-time fee of $150.
• ESL Class: One (1), 2-hour class (2 hours per week) for a total of eighteen (18) weeks:
  a one time fee of $75.
• Citizenship Class: One (1), 1-hour class per week for a total of fourteen (14) weeks:
  a one time fee $50.

Interested students in the ESL classes are asked to take a basic placement test, which is available at the Reference Desk of the Nutley Public Library. Please take the test on your own time, at the Library or at home, and return it to the Librarian at the Reference Desk. Please include your name and telephone number on the test and the program’s college instructor, Anthony Forte, will contact you to discuss the results within a few days.
